FRIDAY, JUNE 27, THROUGH SUNDAY, JULY 6 — 2ND ANNUAL DECORATE YOUR LAKEFRONT CONTEST.  The theme this year is “Your Favorite American Sport.” Judging will take place on July 5 by a committee.  Remember to print your name and address clearly on a lakefront sign so the judges will know who are.  Prizes will be awarded!  Please leave your decorations up through July 6 so everyone can enjoy them!

FRIDAY, JULY 4 — RING OF FIRE.  Flares will be available for purchase starting Friday, June 27, at Bob Hake’s (915 Hess Lake Drive) and the Hess Lake Party Store. Cost is still $1.50 each and the lighting will start at 10 p.m. Let’s make the lake glow and enjoy the beautiful view!

Saturday, July 5 —  Sailboat Race.  The race begins at 3 p.m. meet in the middle of the lake.  Contact Bob Hake with any questions at (231) 834-8219.   All sailboats are welcome to participate in the race!  Have fun racing and watching!

Saturday, July 19 — 3rd Annual “Son Of A Sailor” hess lake 10k Walk/Run.  Start time will be 8:30 a.m. on 88th Street, with the race proceeding counter clock-wise around the lake. The inside lane of the road (i.e., closest to the lake) will be for runners/walkers.  Please be respectful of this community event and try to schedule road usage before 8:30 a.m. and after 10 a.m., or please drive counter clock-wise in the outside lane.  Cost per entry is $20.00 if received by July 16 ($25.00 if received after July 16).  Pre-race packet pickup and sign-up will be July 18, at 1249 Hess Lake Drive from  4-8 p.m.  Race Day sign-up will be 7 a.m. – 8:15 a.m. at River Valley Community Church on M37 and 88th Street.  On-line registration is available at www.GetMeRegistered.com.  Saturday August 2 — Kayak/Paddleboat Races. Plans are shaping up for this new event for kids and adults on Hess Lake.  Thanks to Ivan Kraker for coordinating the races.  Contact him at (616) 510-9596 or 5.ikraker@heritageacademies.com to offer your help!  Watch for more details on the Hess Lake sign at the public boat launch in the future.
